The Men We Need Today
Psalm 103:13 - As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him
I am amazed at how quickly children learn. By the age of two, they learn to walk and talk, and so much more.
Today, I was thinking about my two-day-old grandson (Beckett). All the lessons he will learn from his big sister, who has gotten off to a great start.
The world is very intentional at teaching young men to be strong and tough. But being strong is not enough. We will teach Beckett to stand up for himself, and those who cannot stand up for themselves.
Compassion does not have to be thought of as a weakness. Our sovereign God, was compassionate when we were weak; he sent his son to die for us (Romans 5:8). Jesus, was full of compassion when he said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing” (Luke 23:34).
The world needs men who are strong enough to show others compassion. This only happens when men are intentional in their walk with God. Compassion is easier caught than taught.
Fathers, what are you teaching your sons? To swing a bat, to kick a ball? Or, to be full of compassion like their God and Savio?
